BELIEVE Part 1: What About Doubt? Doubt: To be uncertain and undecided about. To distrust or disbelieve, suspicion.
- Doubt is the beginning of real, sincere, and grounded
Turn in your Bibles to Luke 24 & John 20 Luke 24:36-37 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. Luke 24:38-40 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” 40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. John 20:24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.
- Doubt is a bi-product of neglecting our time with Jesus.
John 20:25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
- Second hand faith will always leave us doubting.
Acts 1:3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. John 20:26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” John 20:27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Psalms 103:2-5 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
- Our doubts subside when we have an encounter with Jesus.
John 20:28-29 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Luke 24:32 “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
- The winner between FAITH and DOUBT is determined by which one we choose to act upon.
John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe?
